The hotel’s name goes back to the horse-drawn mail coach route between the cities of Vienna and Trieste. The route was established by archduchess Maria Theresia and the building served as a stagecoach station. With a history of more than 300 years DAS TRIEST presents itself today as the premier address for guests who appreciate a unique hotel and restaurant design.
DAS TRIEST was designed by English architect Sir Terence Conran and was opened in 1995. His design’s inspiration - the former imperial and royal port city of Trieste - is evident from the nautical design elements throughout the hotel.
The hotel was expanded in 2018. In the new rooms, reduced geometric structures and the motif of the dissolved grid were used and design elements by artist Esther Stocker were incorporated. The work stands independently alongside that of Sir Terence Conran, creating a creative and exciting design dialogue.
The old, vaulted stables were converted into salons, suites and conference rooms with distinctive flair and modern furnishings. The newly created Novara event rooms on the top floor offer a light-flooded atmosphere and a breath-taking view over the city centre of Vienna.
In addition to specially designed pieces of furniture by renowned designers, DAS TRIEST is also enriched with works of art and accessories which give the hotel its unique signature style. Special attention has been given to detail and to the delightful flower arrangements on display throughout the whole building.
Hotel DAS TRIEST features a unique inner courtyard as well as rooms and suites with private gardens or terraces and the “Schanigarten” of the hotel’s restaurant.
The gardens and the courtyard only reveal themselves to visitors after entering the hotel. The inner courtyard with its magnificent - about 30 years old - olive trees invites you to linger and is especially popular on warm summer evenings.
During the warm summer months breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks are served in the courtyard. In winter, the courtyard is transformed into the perfect place for your Christmas party with festively decorated trees, lanterns, punch and rosemary potatoes.
The Bistro Porto sees itself as the hotel's meeting place and restaurant. The Porto is literally a haven for all those who love the Italian culinary culture.
In the summer months the Schanigarten on Rilkeplatz will transport you to the port of Trieste. The white furniture gives the square a lightness, in keeping with the Italian joie de vivre.
